Beginner in Italian?
๐ฌ Watch this Netflix series
If you are a beginner in Italian, the new Netflix reality television series is a perfect linguistic choice for you. You will understand everything or almost everything.
Love is blind Italy (Lโamore รจ cieco) is the Italian version of the popular Netflix reality dating series. The show follows a social experiment where heterosexual single men and women look for love and get engaged while talking to each other through a paper wall. They choose their future spouses without seeing them.
Of course, all candidates are beautiful, slim, tall, have a good job, no one is disabled, fat, or in any way beautiful in a non-standard way. Beautiful people on a blind date.
If it sounds stupid, thatโs because it is.
Iโm only recommending this series for linguistic reasons, only to beginners who donโt have much choice when it comes to authentic Italian content. And mainly the first two episodes.
๐ A huge thank you to my hairdresser, Gregorio, for recommending this series.
๐ฉโโค๏ธโ๐จ How to watch Love is blind Italy as a beginner?
Start from the first episode where the singles get to know each other. Itโs a unique place to see authentic conversations in modern Italian with a lot of questions you already know: come ti chiami? Di dove sei? Dove abiti? Quanti anni hai?
The topics of the conversations are A1/A2 level: family, daily routines, free time, work, the city you live in and the city you come from, looks, horoscopes and the character of a person.
Thereโs a lot of small talk. Pay attention to it.
In the episodes taking place during the convivenza (living together), you will see the Italian cities, homes, and restaurants, and listen to conversations with family and friends about daily problems and future projects.
You can understand the role of parents and friends in today's Italian life.
The participants are talking about sex quite often, and they use a very simple and easy-to-understand language.
There is a lot of arguing, too. If you are a beginner, it may be difficult to follow, but you will surely always understand the main point.
You can observe the body language to help you understand better, not only the arguments.
The vocabulary you will hear is related to daily life, dating, and relationships. It repeats a lot, making it easy to stick.
The participants come from different parts of Italy (Milan, Rome, Tuscany, Napoli). If you listen attentively, you will be able to hear the differences in the way they speak.
